With some 60 acres to explore including open fields, river frontage and woods right on the property, it's no wonder that Wellnesste Lodge is considered one of the top cabin rental & family ski vacation spots in the region. Cross-country fans can also burn an average of over 600 calories per hour (more than biking, hiking and other comparable activities) while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the many trails that are close by in the Tug Hill and Adirondack Mountain regions. 

Cross country trails along the Tug Hill Plateau have the distinction of record snowfall east of the Rocky Mountains (374” is the record to date) and the Adirondacks offer Olympic quality cross country trails for all levels. Below is a listing of some great spots that guests love to visit for cross-country skiing adventure (listed in order of closest to furthest from your Wellnesste cabin rental).

The area’s best cross-country ski center. They offer 40k of daily groomed trails, the largest selection of cross country ski equipment in NY State, group rates giving visitors additional savings on equipment and trail fees. Senior and youth rates, snack bar, etc

Osceola is located in the center of the famous Tug Hill Plateau. With 300 inches of snow on an average year and daily grooming this area offer the most consistently enjoyable skiing experience east of the Mississippi.


Forest Park

Forest Park is located just a short drive from Wellnesste Lodge in the Queen Village of Camden, NY. The park is a local treasure of mixed hardwood forests, creeks and rivers. There is a paved road system that is opened seasonally and there are numerous rustic trails for hiking and exploring. Visitors can enjoy some 22 pavilions throughout the park where picnics, barbeques and family reunions are fun for all. In the winter, the road system is often groomed and both cross country skiers and snowshoers enjoy wandering the park on quiet snowy days.


46-Corners Management Unit

46-Corners Management Unit includes 8 state forests in the northwest corner of Oneida County, a small portion in the southeast corner of Oswego County and a small portion in southwest Lewis County. The total land area is 18,032 acres. Click here for a map of the 46-Corners area.

Because of the size of this area, it’s a great choice for experienced back-country skiing guests who are looking for plenty of room to wander & a wilderness experience. Most of the management area is within 30 minutes of Wellnesste.

 

 


Beaver Lake Nature Center

The Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA)

This is the best free trail system for snowshoeing and cross country skiing that we know of. The BREIA trails are groomed & maintained by a private foundation that provides all the maintenance and free public use of the trails. It’s an excellent area for Snowshoeing and provides 3 different trails. The system also houses several European-style warming huts which are a great place to stop for a break, a snack, to socialize and warm up before continuing on your adventure. Directions: The trails are about an hour drive from Wellnesste and well worth the trip. They are located off Egypt Road near Alder Creek, NY. Stay on Route 12 North when you arrive at the intersection of route 28 and route 12 North at Alder Creek Egypt Road is the first left passed Hinsteads Restaurant. The first parking lot is about three quarters of a mile down the road (see map). You will see a sign on the right. This trail has three branches. One follows along Echo Lake or there is a branch that leads to the Alder Creek Gorge which you can also get to from the second Echo Road entrance and parking lot. There is another short loop that goes to the Adirondack Rail Crossing. There is a sign-in station at the entrance with a trail map.
