The first snowmobiles were designed in the 1920’s and were intended as “winter utility vehicles” to be used where other vehicles couldn’t go (i.e.- in the backcountry, woods, mountains, etc.). As they grew in range and design, hunters and workers transporting personnel and materials across snow-covered land, frozen lakes and rivers began to use them recreationally as well as for “work”. Today, northern areas of the United States & Canada are considered the “Meccas” of recreational snowmobiling.

The Tug Hill Plateau of Central New York is ranked amongst the best snowmobiling hot spots in the Eastern United States because of its vast wilderness areas and an average snowfall of ~ 200” per year. Snowmobile visitors to Wellness:té take advantage of the network of trails that stem from the hamlet of Taberg. Starting at Wellness:té, guests can literally ride from their cabin doors & enjoy hundreds of miles of trails in the Tug Hill and the Adirondacks. Each winter also offers special events around the area such as the "Old Sled Races" in Taberg itself. Area Snowmobile Clubs offer trail maps, New York State Registration Fee information and much more.
